Things to Bring on a Boat
When you are out on the water enjoying your boat, the last thing you want is to be forced to cut your trip short just because you forget something. That is why Tommy’s Boats has created this guide to boat packing. By bringing along the things on this list, you can help ensure a safe and fun boating trip for you and your loved ones.
1. Dry Bag
A dry bag is simply a waterproof bag that protects your extra clothing, electronic devices, wallet, keys, and any other items you don’t want to get wet. Some dry bags are even designed to float for easy retrieval. While a dry bag is your best and most durable option, you can also use a zippered plastic bag for similar purposes if necessary.
2. A Well-Stocked Cooler
A well-stocked cooler has been the cornerstone of many great boating trips, though what you stock the cooler with is up to you. Drinks will keep you hydrated, but snacks are also a good choice, particularly if you are bringing younger boaters along. Pack what you want, and make sure there is enough ice to keep things cool.
3. Sunscreen
While some people are more vulnerable to sunburn than others, boating tends to lead to a lot of sun exposure, so it is best not to take chances. Make sure that you are using sunscreen with an appropriate SPF level to ensure proper protection, and don’t forget to apply it to high-risk areas like your ears and the back of your neck.
4. Extra Clothing
Getting wet is almost a given when you go out boating. Make sure you have a change of clothes available for every passenger, especially if hypothermia is a concern. Even if you are boating in warmer weather, changing into fresh clothes will be much more comfortable than waiting for what you are wearing to dry.
5. Towels
Towels can help you and your passengers to dry off more quickly, as well as protect your seats. Make sure you have enough from everyone that is coming along.
6. Entertainment
Having some entertainment items onboard can be helpful, especially if some of your passengers are on the younger side. Anything from books to music will do, but waterproof options are highly recommended!
